2011’s outdatedreviews Game of the Year Awards!!!

A lot of great games came out last year. Shooter fans sat nestled in their dens getting in some personal time with the latest iteration of the blockbuster Call of Duty franchise. Fantasy lovers spent countless hour roaming through all of upper Tamriel in the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. But if neither of those games grabbed you there were plenty of others grabbing. Uncharted 3, Skyward Sword, Portal 2, Gears of War 3, and those are only a few of the vast amount of games released in 2011.

So no matter if you liked Battlefield more than Call of Duty, you really can’t argue that 2011 was an amazing year for gamers.

But something we can argue about…What the best game of the year was.

So here it goes: the 2011 outdatedreviews Game of the Year awards.

Gears of War 3 (2011), video game review.

In 2007 if you had asked me what my favorite video game was I probably would have said some Nintendo game or an early Playstation game. Fast forward to winter of 2008 and the only game I was playing was Gears of War 2, where I had racked up over a thousand rounds of multiplayer…offline. So naturally since Gears 3 came out earlier this week it has completely consumed my life.

Gears of War 3 may well be the greatest third-person shooter to come out on any system, let alone the Xbox 360. Packed with a ton of great modes, including the new four-player campaign and Beast mode, there’s a lot to love in Gears 3. And even if it was the same old game as the last one, only reskinned, I’d probably still have the same amount of playtime. But luckily…its much much more.

Special Review: Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta (2011).

The first Gears was a great multiplayer game but it still had its flaws. The second game took away many of those flaws, and with the addition of the hugely popular Horde mode (which has now been copied it almost every game to come out since), it give Halo and Call of Duty a run for their money. And now the third game finally has a concrete release date in September and it has a multiplayer beta that is now running. So, where does this game stand in the huge and ultra competitive world of online shooters?
